The Audrey Sickle Cell Foundation ASCF is driven by two significant objectives: to amplify awareness on Sickle Cell Disorder (SCD) and to ensure that less privileged persons with this disorder have access to quality healthcare.
Nigeria has the highest number of people living with the Sickle Cell Disorder; remote villgaes and surburbs are still yet to get adequate information and access to proper medical care. For this reason Audrey Sickle Cell Foundation is doing an outreach program in Bomadi/Akugbene to ensure that an increased percentage of persons are tested to know their genotype status. Thus equipping them with the information required to make informed decisions as regards their marital partner and/or offspring(s). With this ASCF hopes, would annihilate the occurrence SCD in Nigeria, reduce child and maternal mortality and eradicate the stigma associated with SCD. And also to ensure that less privileged with SCD have access to quality medical care, can be referred to hematologist, have access to free drugs, etc. ASCF believes that efficient management of Sickle Cell cases is key to avoiding frequent pain crisis, complications and also high mortality rate.
