What are you raising money for?

1000 conflict-affected children requires support with educational kits to reinforce their hopes, build their resilience and strengthen their education through collaborative actions of supporting children’s learning for lasting peace in Borno State Northeast Nigeria Our core objectives are: To ensure quality and accessible education for every child by providing basic learning materials, including uniforms, bags, books, and shoes, to 1000 conflict-affected children, thereby ensuring educational standards are met in Borno State. To work collaboratively with community stakeholders to reinforce resilience and provide sustainable development support for children and women in the areas of education, protection, peacebuilding, and climate change. We will target 1000 out-of-school children affected by the armed conflict of Boko Haram. We will implement the project in collaboration with government and community stakeholders. Also, we will participate actively in all sector coordination platforms and networks to increase collaboration on education support, community peace and development.

Why are you raising the funds?

The Boko Haram insurgency has wreaked havoc in this region of northeast Nigeria, leaving thousands of households displaced and livelihoods shattered. Many families have been forced to flee their hometowns, leaving behind their means of livelihood and support for their children's education. As a result, most parents are unable to provide for the educational needs of their children, and these children find themselves faced with limited access to education and little hope for a brighter future. Thousands of children affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Northeast Nigeria are still out of school in key states of the subregion despite efforts by government and humanitarian agencies. Our research indicates that education is the backbone of every peaceful community and its development. Therefore, empowering education is the only pathway for children to rebuild hope resilience and community peace. The campaign is targeting two conflict-affected Local Government Areas (LGAs) of MMC and Jere. Our aim is to procure locally produced school learning kits to directly enhance local businesses and support the 1000 vulnerable less privileged children in these areas . By addressing these needs, we believe these support will help them to further their education. We will monitor and report the impacts of these interventions and document lessons learned. Green Generation Initiative (GGI) will collaborate with the Borno State Government Agency (SUBEB) to achieve these goals by implementing series of activities. This includes an in-depth needs assessment to identify the specific learning needs required by conflict-affected children, tailored to their local education system.

What will the funds raised help achieve?

To achieve the desired goals, 1. Phase 1: Identification and re-enrollment in schools: We will identify out-of-school children affected by the Boko Haram conflict and re-enroll them back to schools to access quality education. Then, we provide all their educational needs to further their education. 2. Phase 2: Empowering education to strengthening peace: We will work with teachers, parents, and community leaders to raise awareness about the importance of education and support the conflict-affected children and reduce dropping out of school. 3. Phase 3: Stakeholders engagement and collaboration: We will collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to conduct community mobilization, sensitization, awareness campaigns, advocacies and other engagements to ensure our efforts are locally accepted, synchronized and supported for sustainability. We will rally for support from all corners of society, ensuring it is tailored to the existing education system. Expected Outcomes / Achievements: 1. Conflict-affected children have increased access to quality education and reduced dropping out of school with scholarships and educational kits support. 2. School teachers and community stakeholders are trained and equipped on gender-sensitive teaching methods and improved knowledge of effective management of the re-enrolled children. 3. More Positive collaboration and support for education at the community level: community members interact positively on all issues related to the education of children, community peace, protection concerns and GBV/PSEA cases. 4. Empathy Raised: Greater empathy for the plight of out-of-school children and other less privileged persons, feeling more remorseful and increased support for conflict-affected children and their parents. 5. Increased in awareness and sensitization through community engagement and back to school campaigns for conflict-affected children.
