What are you raising money for?

In Badna Community, Karu LGA, Nasarawa State, hundreds of residents have been denied clean, safe, and affordable water for years. Once the community’s lifeline, the only community-owned borehole has been abandoned due to a faulty pumping machine and lack of a functional generator. With no affordable alternative, families are forced to fetch water from unsafe shallow wells or buy from expensive private boreholes that most cannot afford. The impact has been devastating. Across Nigeria, 70,000 children under age five die annually from waterborne diseases like diarrhoea and cholera, and Badna is no exception. Mothers care for children sickened by preventable illnesses. Fathers struggle to choose between food or medicine. Children miss school repeatedly due to poor health. Poverty deepens further as scarce income is drained by hospital bills. The Restoring Access to Free and Clean Water in Badna Community Project aims to change this within three weeks. Funds raised will rehabilitate the borehole by installing a new pumping machine and generator and construct a tiled platform with five functional taps for safe, efficient water access. Two youths will be trained as borehole operators, and a five-member gender-inclusive water management committee will oversee operations. Hygiene sensitization sessions will reach hundreds of households. Your support will restore live, dignity, health, and hope, making clean water a reality in Badna once again.

Why are you raising the funds?

I am raising these funds to restore access to clean, safe, and affordable water for hundreds of families in Badna Community, Karu LGA, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. For years, the community’s only borehole which used to be the lifeline that once provided free water has stop serving its purpose due to a faulty pumping machine and the absence of a functional generator. This has forced families to depend on unsafe shallow wells or pay for water from private boreholes that most cannot afford. The consequences have been severe. Children fall sick with diarrhoea and cholera, mothers spend sleepless nights nursing preventable illnesses, and fathers struggle to cover both food and medical bills. Poverty deepens as scarce household income is drained by hospital costs for diseases that clean water could prevent. At this stage, intervention is urgent. Every day without clean water keeps families trapped in a cycle of sickness, poverty, despair untimely death. By raising these funds, we can rehabilitate the borehole in just three weeks, install a new pumping machine and generator, build a safe water platform with taps, and train local youths and a water committee to manage the system sustainably. This is more than repairing infrastructure. It is restoring health, lives, dignity, and hope to a community long denied its most basic human right, clean water.

What will the funds raised help achieve?

The funds raised will be used to achieve the following: 1. Rehabilitate the only community-owned borehole in Badna Community, which has been broken for years. 2, With these resources, we will install a new pumping machine and generator to restore the water supply 3. Construct a tiled platform fitted with five functional taps so families can collect water safely and efficiently. 4. Two young people from the community will be trained as pump/borehole operators, 5. A five-member, gender-inclusive water management committee will be established to oversee daily operations, security, and accountability. 6. In addition, hygiene and sanitation sensitization sessions will be conducted to reach over 500 households, equipping families with the knowledge to protect their health and prevent the spread of waterborne diseases. 7. A transparent community maintenance fund, where households contribute a small monthly token of ?500, will guarantee that the system remains functional and sustainable for years to come.
