What are you raising money for?

Favour Kadai is a young girl from Northern Nigeria who was raised in the East after moving there at age 4 with a Corp member who had gone to her hometown in Biapum, Plateau State, Nigeria to serve under the NYSC scheme. She spent 14 years in the East, where she completed her WAEC. During this time, she faced immense challenges at 18 years, including early attempts to force her into marrying the same man, 48 years, who brought her from the North. Despite these hardships, Favour remained determined to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse—a dream she sees as a possibility after she had worked as a salesgirl at a pharmacy.

Why are you raising the funds?

Today, we have been able to secure Favour an admission at the Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery in Jalingo, where she will study Community Nursing. However, her family, living in Biapum, Plateau State, cannot afford the costs associated with her education, including tuition, accommodation, feeding, and textbooks. We are raising these funds to support Favour through her 3-year nursing program. Her journey has been far from easy: she has endured childhood abuse and hardship, yet she excelled academically and even gained practical experience working as an apprentice in medical pharmacies. Her parents, struggling financially, have asked her to abandon her dream and help with farming at home. But Favour’s determination and exposure to opportunities in the South have kept her dream alive. She has even left home to resume at the school with no shelter, fees and other basic things for a student let alone a nursing student.
