Increased security and peace in Jos/ Bukuru metropolis....
In January, the government forcefully evicted residents of Tarkwa Bay, a Riverine community in Lagos. The evictees expectedly has to move around to find places they could stay. One of such places is the Agala community, another Riverine community close to TarkwaBay. The Baale of Agala welcomed the Tarkwa Bay evictees amongst them and gave them some portions of land to erect makeshift homes.
Weeks ago, we visited the community, and spoke with the Baale of Agala, who explained the situation and highlighted the needs of the people.
They have neither pipe borne water nor schools nor hospitals nor homes. But the most pressing need is food. With the lockdown in effect, it has become harder for these people to feed. This is why we have started this relief drive. We will focus on food items and hygiene/sanitary items for this period (face masks, hand sanitizers etc). We plan to have a food package worth 5,000 naira per family, and we are looking to reach 230 families.
