What are you raising money for?

My name is Nelson Uzoma, and I recently received admissions and scholarships from several U.S. universities, including the University of San Diego, Penn State University, Syracuse University, Arizona State University, and others. After careful consideration, I chose St. John’s University in Queens, New York, where I received a partial scholarship to study Computer Science, beginning January 2026. I choose SJU because it offered me the most generous scholarship package, bringing my study abroad dream to a closer reach. Although the scholarship reduces some costs, it does not cover everything. I am raising N5,000,000 to pay for my first-semester housing, health insurance, textbooks, and visa/travel expenses. These funds will help me begin my studies smoothly and focus on my academics without financial stress. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings me closer to realizing my dream of becoming a tech innovator and giving back to my community.

Why are you raising the funds?

Coming from a humble background in a family of eight, my parents have worked tirelessly to support my education, but the financial gap remains too wide. Despite my efforts and partial scholarship, I still need assistance to cover essential expenses that will allow me to begin classes in January 2026. This support is important now, as St. John’s University requires payment before the semester begins to confirm my enrollment and secure housing. Missing this deadline could mean losing my admission and scholarship opportunity. I’m deeply motivated to pursue Computer Science because technology is the key to solving many of Nigeria and Africa’s challenges. I want to specialize in artificial intelligence and digital innovation, and eventually return home to build research and training centers that empower young Nigerians and Africans with modern tech skills.

What will the funds raised help achieve?

The funds raised will help me secure my spot at St. John’s University by paying for my remaining tuition, accommodation, and required student insurance, ensuring I can begin my program in January 2026. With this support, I’ll be able to focus on learning, research, and community involvement without financial barriers. Completing this degree will position me to create technology-based solutions that address real problems in Nigeria and Africa, especially in education, job creation, and digital literacy.
