What are you raising money for?

I am raising money to help women raise their application fees to study at AltSchool Africa. This comes after several women won scholarships from various sources, but might be unable to pursue them due to financial constraints involved in paying the application fees. Some of these women are students or low-income earners, so helping them pay a part of the application fees will help them tremendously. Although the application fee is only twenty thousand naira per person, it’s still a burden for a lot of people, especially in this current economic downturn. The fund is specifically for women because they asked, and other women donated and offered to help.

Why are you raising the funds?

I am raising the funds partially because I have a big enough platform to do so. With over eleven thousand followers on Twitter, I can help amplify other women's needs. I tweeted about not being able to afford my application fees, and a kind mutual reached out to offer to pay. I then tweeted an update and mentioned that some other women are finding it difficult to pay their fees. Subsequently, several women have reached out to find out if they can be assisted, and I can't do it on my own. This prompted the creation of this page to help those women while maintaining transparency for the donors.

What will the funds raised help achieve?

The fund raised will help to clear a part of the application fees for each beneficiary selected. The application fee is twenty thousand naira, but in order to help as many people as possible, we will be paying ten thousand naira each. That is 50%, and it is a big help for several women. There is no special criteria, but women who are beneficiaries of a scholarship already will be given precedence. This is because they are most likely to follow through with the courses chosen, as they’ve already won scholarships. If the donations significantly exceed what we are asking for, we will put it towards clearing 100% of certain fees.
