We are raising these funds to reduce the stigma and shame experienced by vulnerable adolescent girls who have limited or no resources needed to manage their menstrual flow with dignity and confidence. In addition, this crowdfunding will help our organization improve the health and well-being of our beneficiaries by providing them with menstrual health and hygiene interventions that will educate girls on the proper management of their menstrual flow and, at the same time, dispel negative myths and misconceptions on menstruation among adolescent girls. Our organization is also using this medium to provide an opportunity for well-meaning Nigerians to give back to their society. Persons who have lost a loved one can support the Flow without Fear Campaign in memory of their loved ones.
Funds raised through this platform will help reduce menstrual poverty among vulnerable girls by purchasing and distributing sanitary pads. This distribution will protect the health and well-being of its beneficiaries by preventing them from resorting to unhealthy alternatives that increase their risk of infection and discomfort. Providing sanitary pads through this crowdfunding will reduce learning gaps created from missed days of learning. The funds raised through this platform will be used to support adolescent girls from poor families who are either schooling in public schools or living in vulnerable communities with the right education on the effective management of menstrual hygiene.
An estimated 37 million women and girls are said to be living in period poverty in Nigeria. Raising this fund will help to: 1. Improve school attendance and participation in school activities. Well-managed menstrual hygiene will give the girls the dignity and confidence needed to attend school during their period and improve their ability to participate in both educational and extracurricular activities. 2. Improved menstrual health among vulnerable adolescents: The provision of menstrual pads and menstrual health education will reduce the risk of acquiring certain infections associated with the use of unsafe alternatives for pads like dirty rags, reuse of dirty underpants, and the prolonged use of pads. 3. Promote Gender Equity by enabling vulnerable girls to have equal access to school participation without the fear of their monthly flow. 4. Reduce the incidence of rape among adolescent girls in search for money to buy sanitary pad.
