WISPANET Youth Empowerment in collaboration with Agape Care Initiative are currently implementing a project titled "Internally Displaced Girls Education Program" and we are raising money for the project. The project includes training 400 girls in IDP camps in Abuja in basic literacy; reading, writing and spelling. The girls will also participate in an inter-camp spelling bee competition whereby 50 winners will be selected throughout the various categories, enrolled in school (both primary and secondary school) and provided with necessary sponsorship support to be retained in school for primary and secondary levels. The project will also establish girls literacy clubs in schools to help inspire girls and give them a platform to express themselves.
Since the commencement of the project in November 2023 with an initial target of 3 IDP camps in Abuja, there have been an overwhelming interest and request from several IDP camps in Abuja to be a part of the project. This has increased the scope of the project beyond our initial plan. The project has initially received funding support from ActionAid's Women Voices and Leadership (WVL) project but with the increase in the scope and demand for the project, we need to raise more funds for the project to benefit more IDP girls between the ages of 5 to 15. This is the reason we are soliciting your support through the campaign.
The funds raised through this campaign will be added to the funds we already have on ground and this will enable us admit more girls into the program, engage more volunteers to train these girls across more IDP camps, expand the intra-camp and inter-camp spelling bee competition, enroll more girls in school, provide them with school uniforms, bags, sandals, books and other needed school items as well as cover their tuition. The funds will also be used to provide media coverage for the project as well produce media reports, videos and documentaries that tell the stories of the girls, their plight, the hopes and their dreams.
