What are you raising money for?

The goal of Anti-Suicide and Depression Squad (ASADS) remains to create an enabling environment for promoting mental health awareness and wellness. The ASADS Mental Health Speaks is one of the ways we hope to accomplish this and is what we are trying to raise funds for. This is an annual event organized to sensitize the public audience in Nigeria on real mental health issues with a pivotal focus on depression and suicide. So over the years, ASADS has successfully organized three editions of Mental Health Speaks in partnership with various mental health professionals and organizations both home and abroad . This 4th edition comes with a view to targeting mental health policies, institutions and Healthcare in Nigeria. It's rather sad that in Nigeria, very few policies and legislations exist to ensure that individuals with mental health issues have access to primary care as would be the case with any other illness. It is our desire to address this narrative via this year's edition of Mental Health Speaks and we really do need money to successfully organize this event.

Why are you raising the funds?

This year's edition of Mental Health Speaks hopes to address policies and legislations that surround mental health issues with a view to improving them and so much needs to be done which is why we are raising funds to make this possible. Over 500 persons are expected to be in attendance of the event. There are so many things to cater for such as getting the venue set and ready, ensuring proper and effective sound and visuals. There is also logistics to cover, data and Wi-Fi for easy coverage, banners and ads for publicity, souvenirs, refreshments and lots more. There is so much to do and by ourselves we cannot.. This is why we need you and why we are reaching out to you to help raise funds to this effect. A lot has been done but there is still so much to be done and so much we want to do, and with your support, we indeed can. We believe that our dreams and ambitions are possible but we know for sure that with your contributions, they are achievable.

What will the funds raised help achieve?

The funds raised for this event will help in accomplishing the following objectives; 1. Discussion on proactive steps that can be taken to improve existing mental health policies in Nigeria. 2. Dialogues about how strategic steps can be taken to positively improve mental health in Nigeria. 3. Discussion on Mental Health policies and legislations that can be enacted in Nigeria to improve the mental health of the average Nigerian. 4. Encouraging more dialogue on mental health related issues in Nigeria. 5. Spreading awareness about mental health. By supporting this cause and event, you'd be helping to facilitate a great shift in the mental health space of the country thereby contributing to overall improvement and wellness in societal development.
