The kids are final year students of Evergreen Academy - a unit of the Children Revolutionary Foundation (CRF). CRF is the educational arm of the Human Welfare for Empowerment and Development Initiative (HWEDI).
The vision of HWEDI has been to see that children (orphans and destitute) get a chance at life, that they enjoy the privilege of living with hope of achieving their dreams and doing so without prejudice. The mission started about a decade ago and today, there are over 180 children being catered for. The foundation is located in KM 2, Irri road, Isoko South LGA, Delta State, Nigeria.
As you may have guessed, this mission has been trailed by lots of challenges from the start; from material to financial and getting people to be part of this project. For example, the foundation pays the teachers of Evergreen Academy some stipends, and have to ensure that provision is made for food and all the basic needs of the kids. At the moment, the foundation runs solely on donation for good-natured individuals.
Like the founders of the foundation, these individual see in these kids the chance to becoming change-makers, with potentials to propel revolutions that would take the African continent to higher heights, and most importantly, they see kids with glowing dreams in need of some support for accomplishment. These kids have represented the academy in several competitions and have returned more victorious than other supposedly "better" schools within the environs. Students from the academy have made it to the top position (first position in Delta State) in the National Cowbell Mathematics competition organized annually. We are passionate about them because we have touched and handled their potentials, and we would not let those gifts of nature go to waste.
This campaign is about the present challenge facing the foundation and the school; it is getting all the final year (Senior Secondary School 3) students registered for the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WAEC). WAEC is an external examination, and it is compulsory for students to secure admission into any higher institution in the region. The foundation has stretched itself to pay a part of the fee and it remains to pay 160,000 Naira (that is about $ 453.73). The exams have commenced (just 1 paper has been written currently) and the students have been offered a "period of grace" by the examiners to complete the payment or risk withdrawing completely from writing the remaining papers of the examination. We need and would deeply appreciate any support we can get in achieving this goal.
