Increased security and peace in Jos/ Bukuru metropolis....
Dear Friends & Family,
I am Chioma Okoye, an actress, film maker, and fundraiser. I have raised funds in and outside Nollywood. I successfully raised funds for: Jennifer Epe, cancer treatment, Leo Mezie, a Nollywood actor, with kidney issues. He is now very healthy, Romanus Amuta, who has challenges with his sight. I also raised funds for Obi Madubogwu, a diabetic patient and Prince James Uche who had kidney and diabetic illnesses. These fund raisings were in millions of Naira and they were all successes to the glory of God. My big thanks to all those whose contributions made the projects succeed and brought hope to the hopeless.
Months ago, I met a girl whose story touched me. I decided to make a movie from her story to enlighten the society on the dangers of STREET HAWKING and save many from its destructive consequences.
My NGO, Purple Ribbon Care Foundation, is making the movie, Help Save The Child Hawker, to sensitise parents, governments, and the public about the consequences of child hawking. It highlights how negligence, abuse and lack of care could lead to molestation, trauma, depression and suicide.
We require ONE HUNDRED MILLION NAIRA (N100, 000,000) to make the movie to enlighten parents, and the larger society, on dangers our young children face as they hawk. Mercy’s story needs to be told to prevent the emergence of more "Mercys".
The funds will be used for PRODUCTION and DISTRIBUTION to ensure widest possible reach for the story. The movie will be screened FREE in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, and the West Africa.
Copies on DVD/CVD will also be distributed FREE. The movie will NOT be SOLD.
HOW I MET MERCY
One early evening, while visiting a remote village, my attention was drawn to a commotion, where people gathered. I was told a young girl of 13 tried to kill herself.
It really troubled me that a 13-year-old would wish to die.
She told her story when I took her home. A failed abortion left her bleeding for weeks. She didn’t tell anyone. Doctors said her womb had been affected. They had to take out her womb. She also had infections and some hard drugs in her system. With the assistance of a few friends, we raised money for her surgery which was successful. Thanks to Sir Daniel and Dr. Ahmed Sani who contributed to the funds. Weeks later she was discharged. It was during rehabilitation in my place that she finally opened up..
Thank you and God bless you as you contribute.
