It is no longer news that more than 50 married women were forced into widowhood during the attack of the Dogon Nahawa Community, near Jos. As women that mostly relied on their husbands, the untimely deaths of their husbands further aggravated the level of poverty. We are well aware that even when their beloved husbands were alive, existence was mostly dependent on the little proceeds from the farm.
It is an established fact that women are generally poorer than the men, and that even among the poor, women are the poorest. Women in the target population survive on less than $1 a day, This project seeks to empower widows by increasing their access to skill training, information about credit and financial facilities that would enable them to own businesses of their own and generate income that will sustain them and their families.
