Serving the community? 6 reasons why you should

Diverse Community

Serving the community is often a good way to connect and give back. Generally, community service is defined as unpaid work performed by a person or group of people for the benefit of their community without any form of compensation.

Volunteering can be a form of community service but they are both distinct as community service can sometimes be compulsory or done so as to achieve personal benefits.

Serving the community is important and necessary for many reasons, a few are highlighted below.

1. Serving the community helps you connect to the community

Volunteering is the right opportunity to bring you closer to the world, when you are directly involved with a cause, you don’t experience it like a reader experiences it from the pages they read from instead you experience it full on and then you realize how significant the work you are putting in is and how you are directly impacting lives.

2. Community service helps forms close meaningful connections

When volunteering, you are bound to meet other volunteers and these activities done together can bring people closer. For instance, military men form close bonds with themselves, mostly because they go through the war together. So, you will not only be saving the world, but you will also be forming key relationships that might last a life time.

3. Community service is a step away from changing the world

Volunteering means you are a part of the bigger picture and you are at the forefront of the war that seeks to drive change.

Every service put forward is a step away from changing the world, community service impacts both the doer and the receiver. The world is struggling to survive, so if you are helping it do so you are simply making the world a better place no matter the service you are rendering.

4. Serving the Community will sharpen your skills

Community service may require you to use a few of your skills, these skills do not necessarily have to be technical, your communication skills can go a long way in helping a cause. The more you put these skills to use the better you get in using them and It might even expose capacities that you never thought existed.

Community service helps you find other passions and interests

You never truly know what you like until you try it. For instance, an arts major can volunteer in an animal shelter and find a liking in it.

Life is truly unpredictable, which means that you could never guess what will come your way and if you are uncertain or scared of trying new things, this is a subtle way to begin. You just might decide to follow a new career path.

Community service raises awareness

Sometimes you never realize how badly affected the world is until you get involved, then you realize the severity of the situation. It helps you understand the needs of the people and community and gives you full-on experience that can’t necessarily be gotten by just hearing about this issues or reading them in the papers.

To sum it up, there are several reasons why serving the community is important but you only truly need one which is that it is all for the good of the world. So next time you want to engage in any community service, know that you are making the world a better place.
