Top 5 Ways to Support NGOs and Make a Difference

What is an NGO? Non-governmental organizations are voluntary, politically unaffiliated organizations that provide humanitarian assistance and promote human rights globally. NGOs often represent the interests of the public in societies where citizens cannot express their concerns or needs freely. As a global community, we have a chance to make a difference by helping these groups support their causes. Here are five ways you can make your own NGO an example to others:

Make a difference by donating

Donating to NGOs is one of the easiest ways to make a difference. Whether it’s clothing, food, time, or money, donating is an easy way to help those in need.

Volunteer your time

One of the simplest ways to support NGOs is to give your time. Volunteer at your local animal shelter, soup kitchen, or for a nonprofit’s special event. If you can’t volunteer in person, there are many other ways to volunteer from your home. For example, you could set up a Google Doc and invite participants from around the world to sign up for one-hour shifts to help transcribe interviews.

Support the NGO in your community

There are many NGOs in your community that need help. There may be a group in the neighborhood, your school, or at your place of employment that is looking for more volunteers. When you find an NGO to help, make sure you get involved.

If you have some money to donate, there are always NGOs that need financial support. You could even start a fundraising event or idea at work or in your neighborhood. If you’re not able to give money, you can still help by donating your time and talent to any NGO in need.

Spread the word on social media

Social media is a great way to spread the word. You can share your NGO’s mission and goals with others on social media. People are more likely to be interested in an organization or cause when they have an emotional attachment. Use words that evoke emotion, such as “share,” “help,” “care,” or “empathy.”

Try new projects to raise money

As a business, you can support NGOs by donating money or products. For example, if your company makes paper goods, try to donate a percentage of the proceeds from your next order to a charity. You can also organize an event that benefits your favorite NGO.
