Empower youths, build safer streets

Increased security and peace in Jos/ Bukuru metropolis....
The Founder of AfriYasi met Lola a few months ago while trying to buy plantains which Lola sold cheerfully. Unknown to her, Lola was actually helping a neighbour who had stepped out. This was surprising especially since Lola had sold the wares with so much dedication and amiable passion. Hers were strictly leafy vegetables.
AfriYasi stepped in to find out more about Lola:
Lola is the last born of her family. She had lost her Dad ever since her primary school days. Her mother was left to carry the burden of the family ever since. Her two elder brothers after attending *Government secondary school, Kubwa like all else in the family, decided to start doing menial jobs that fetched them little income as they wouldn't dare think of University education. In Lola's words, "my brothers have been `hustling"' (Nigerians often mean this as "working really hard, doing odd jobs to make ends meet"). Her older sister. Remi was forced to begin training at a salon close to the house for obvious reasons, after her secondary education. As for Lola, she graduated from Secondary school last year and now spends most of her days at the market helping her Mum. Each stack of vegetables go for N50 and they make an average of N1500 per day (about $4 going by today's exchange rate). That's not all. They also cut these leafy vegetables based on customers' demands even if it be just one stack- this labour is usually free of charge. They begin selling as from about 9am to 9pm, changing "shifts" intermittently... In spite of these, she keeps smiles on her face that makes it look like she's hopeful for a better tomorrow and is super diligent.
We encouraged her to write *JAMB examination and also kept her well informed about the date of the exams at her polite request since she didn't have a smart phone to keep up with such matters online. Lola and Remi eventually wrote the last *JAMB examination as advised and would have begun University but for lack of sponsorship.
Kindly help Lola and Remi enroll into University this session as these intelligent girls are on the verge of being married off as a solution to this hardship. Even their little income is fast shrinking now as their Mum was recently diagnosed as having Cataract.
Please, help give hope to this family by sponsoring their tertiary education.
Thank you.
*Government primary and secondary schools are often attended by kids from low-income homes in Nigeria
*JAMB is an acronym for Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, a Nigerian entrance examination board for tertiary institutions.
